Cast[]

Cultural References[]

  • Santiago Calatrava (1951-): Italian architect famed for his graceful suspension bridges. Archer tells Pam he'll name his foot that as it "gracefully suspended in her ass".
  • Willie Sutton (1901-1980): Pam asks Cheryl, "Do you know why people rob banks? Because that's where the money is." This quote is attributed to Sutton, a prolific bank robber who, over a 40-year career, stole an estimated $2 million dollars. Although he later denied in his 1976 autobiography that he ever said it.
  • Battlestar Galactica Reboot (2004-2010): Cheryl murmurs one of the catchphrases of the show, "So say we all", to herself in response to Pam's attempts at a motivational speech.
  • Aliens (1986): The armour and weapon Archer use are a reference to the those used in Aliens by Drake and Vasquez.
  • Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986): In this season's equivalent of Krieger's lab while he dissects the creatures egg, Malory references the artist's flower paintings and their common misinterpretation as erotic works.
  • Heat (1995): When Pam asks Cheryl why people rob banks, Cheryl replies "If I'm remembering this right, it's because the action is the juice?". This is a direct reference to a line by Tom Sizemore's character in the 1995 film.
  • Marines' Hymn: An energized Pam marches to this famous hymn.
  • Teapot Dome Scandal (1921-1930): The subject of Ray's musical is the Teapot Dome Scandal, a bribery scandal in which the Harding Administration's Secretary of the Interior accepted loans and gifts to lease Navy oil reserves to private companies at low rates with non-competitive contracts.
  • Crédit Mobilier Scandal: Archer tells Ray that a "more compelling" subject of his musical would be the Crédit Mobilier scandal of 1872, wherein Union Pacific executives, through a shell corporation, overbilled the U.S. government approximately $44 million for a boondoggle transcontinental rail line project. As mentioned by Archer, one of the executives involved was literally named George Francis Train, which would be an opportunity for much wordplay.
  • They Live (1988): When Cyril says "I came here to do two things…" it is a reference to Rowdy Roddy Piper’s line in the movie “They Live”. "I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass… and I'm all out of bubble gum".
  • Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (1980): When Cyril asks Cheryl, "What are you, part Mynock?", he is referring to the parasites that were chewing on the power cables of the Millennium Falcon.
  • Eggs Benedict: Archer calls the creature "Benedict". Presumably as it continually lays eggs.

Running Gags / Callbacks[]

  • Pam? Pam?? PAM!!!
  • Mention of the Yakuza, Japanese crime syndicate
  • Cheryl's "vorarephilia", a paraphilia characterized by the erotic desire to be consumed.

Continuity[]

  • Reality (Non-Dream):Archer remains in a coma brought upon by the events of "Deadly Velvet: Part II".
  • Dream / Reality Crossover:
    • (Dream) Brett Bunsen appears captaining a ship that explodes at the very end, having managed to get into the path of jettisoned eggs. / (Reality) Brett was often a danger magnet, getting hit by exceedingly improbable ricochets and eventually dying of a bullet wound.

Trivia[]

  • The phrase "sexual Iditarod" refers to the 938 mile Iditarod Dog Sled Race that is conducted from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska.
  • Okies: Malory describes the crew's appearance with this disparaging slang term for migratory farm workers from the state of Oklahoma during the Great Depression and the droughts of the 1930s and 1940s, as included in Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath".

Cheryl: [excitedly clapping] "Ooh! It's starting! We'll tear ourselves apart with suspicion and doubt and then eat each other! I call first dibs!"
Ray: "To eat or be eaten?"
Cheryl: "Whatever. I'm not picky." [in a sultry tone to Lana] "Better sharpen those chompers."
Lana: "I am so confused by your tone."
Cheryl: [still sultry] "Me too."

─────────────────────────

Malory: [shoving Cheryl into Krieger's lab] "Found this one nibbling on a power cord."
Cyril: "What are you, part mynock?"
Cheryl: "No, I was just trying to tenderize myself! Now who's stupid?"
Ray: "Can't believe we were so wrong about you."
